Welcome to the homepage for the SHOOTING SPORTS COMMITTEE
of the Anthony Wayne Area Council!
Anthony Wayne Area Council (AWAC) has a long history of
providing fun shooting sports events in a safe environment for Scouts of all
ages. At Camp Chief Little Turtle (CCLT) there are shooting ranges for BB gun,
Rifle, Shotgun, Archery and Tomahawk. These ranges are controlled by adult
volunteers who have been trained to BSA National standards to make sure your
Scouts are safe, learn about the sport and have fun!
The AWAC Shooting Sports Committee can also provide trained
shooting sports volunteers for your next District event; i.e. Camporees,
Cub-O-Rees, Day Camps, etc. The more notice we are given the better chance we
can provide volunteers on the days and times you require, whether it be for
your District event or an event at CCLT. Please use this link to email your request. In your request
please include the following information:
Your name and contact information (unit, email
address and phone number)
The name of the District
The name of the event
Where the event will be held
The date(s) and times you need assistance
What shooting sports activities you want to have
An estimate of how many Scouts of what ages will
NOTE: This is not a reservation for any facility at Anthony Wayne Reservation. Click on this link to make reservation: http://www.awac.org/camping
The Shooting Sports Committee is always looking for
volunteers that are willing to take the training necessary to become Shooting
Sports Range Masters, Instructors and Range Safety Officers. Most of these
trainings take one Saturday to complete. The Committee strongly encourages each
Pack to have two leaders trained as Cub Scout Range Masters and each Troop/Crew
to have two leaders trained as NRA Instructors/Range Safety Officers. In this
way you will have the supervision “built in” for your next shooting sports
event! For more information about shooting sports training please send an email
to this link.
Shooting Sports Committee Members Donate to Improve CCLT Range
With the upcoming 100th anniversary of AWAC and 50th anniversary of CCLT a fund called, "Growing Future Leaders" has been established to improve our Council and camp. One of the initiates supported by your Shooting Sports Committee is to add an extension to the rifle range blockhouse, and add electricity and lighting for the rifle, archery and shotgun ranges. To date $4,000 has been donated by members of the Shooting Sports Committee and earmarked for this project. If you are interested in donating money to the "Growing Future Leaders" fund please contact the AWAC Office and don't forget to mention what you want your donation used for.
Gun Auction Results
The gun auction of used guns at Camp Chief Little Turtle was completed on August 3rd. The proceeds of approximately $1,600 will be put toward range improvements at the CCLT range complex!

Already Trained as NRA Instructor or Range Master?
We are updating our records to make certain we have current information on all our adult volunteers who have already gone through NRA and/or Range Master training. Please take a few minutes and fill-out the AWAC Shooting Sports Instructor Questionnaire 3-22-16.pdf and then email or Fax (260-436-1824) it to Nila Sink. Thank you!
