Friends of Scouting
Investing in Our Future
FAST FACTS:
- The Anthony Wayne Area Council will invest an average of $250 per youth this year to accomplish our mission of preparing young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.
- Two-thirds of that amount must be raised through direct individual and community support. Program fees and Scout Shop purchases only cover a third of what it actually costs to provide full Scouting program to our youth.
Family Friends of Scouting is one of the methods employed to help underwrite the true costs of Scouting. Scouting families understand the great value that Scouting offers compared to many youth activities. A lot of other organized youth programs cost more than $250 for just 10-12 weeks of activities – and probably won’t produce the lifetime skills and character that Scouting affords. Knowing this, most families willingly participate in the Family Friends of Scouting program.
We are grateful for each unit that makes Family Friends of Scouting a part of its highlight event for the year (Blue and Gold Banquets, Courts of Honor, etc.). By allowing a district volunteer ten minutes of program time to tell the Scouting story and then to give families the opportunity to directly support Scouting, youth throughout the Council are ensured of benefitting from all that Scouting offers at a reasonable cost.
I already paid my child's registration and his unit collects annual dues. Haven't I already supported Scouting?
Your child's registration fee goes directly to the National Office of the Boy Scouts of America. If your child's Scout unit collects dues, that money stays with the unit to help pay for trips and other activities. None of that money helps the Anthony Wayne Area Council pay for:
- Maintaining and staffing the Anthony Wayne Scout Reservation
- Training thousands of adult volunteer leaders in youth protection
- Providing programs like Cub Scout Day Camp, Cub Scout Resident Camp, Webelos Adventure Camp,Boy Scout Summer Camp, Klondikes, Spring and Fall Camporees
- Printing the Courier newsletter six times a year and updating this website, to try and better inform you about upcoming Scouting events and programs.
